Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur have met to discuss the fate of two transitional justice bodies that have been in limbo for over a decade.
According to NCP sources, the meeting took place at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha. Dahal, who was accompanied by party general secretary Bishnu Paudel, told Deuba that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission to Investigate Enforced Disappearances should be formed at the earliest. The duo is learnt to have discussed impediments to appointing the officials of the two commissions and the way forward.
After the discussion on transitional bodies concluded, Deuba urged Dahal to withdraw the controversial bill such as the Media Council bill. The meeting took place for around half-an-hour, an aide to Deuba said.
